“Topless equal rights for all or none” is the slogan of the organization, GoTopless.org and for the 4th consecutive year, they are declaring August 21st as National Go Topless Day. Protests were staged today to proclaim a woman’s constitutional right to go topless in public. Both men and women were encouraged to participate in the demonstrations. Women showed up topless and men showed up in bras and bikini tops, supposedly in support of equal rights for both genders.
Demonstration in Asheville, NC was a bust
According to the organization’s website, topless demonstrations were planned for various cities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Honolulu, NYC, Washington DC, Portland,OR, Austin, and Asheville, NC. Asheville police were prepared as indicated by the department spokesman Wally Welch, “They can breast away; it’s not a crime.” ( Asheville Citizen Times) About a hundred or so curious onlookers watched as a measly 13 demonstrators ( 8 of which were men wearing bras) stood on a platform stage and shouted for support from the crowd. It was a sad display of saggy boobs and didn’t do much to promote the cause. Perhaps they would have held the crowd’s attention if they’d had a choreographed dance routine. At any rate, they need to make some improvements before next year.
Free Your Breasts! Free Your Mind!
Just one of the rallying cries of GoTopless.org., a U.S. based organization founded by spiritual leader Rael, of the Raelian Movement, whose sole purpose is to claim equal rights among the genders by allowing everyone to freely go topless in public. That’s it. If we can all go topless, then we’re equal. Rael has been quoted on the website as saying, “As long as men can go topless, either women should have the same constitutional right or men should also be forced to wear something that hides their chests.” Constitutional right? You mean our Founding Fathers actually addressed this in our Constitution? The right to bear arms, the right to free speech, the right to freedom of religion……. the right to go topless in public. Nowhere in the U.S. Constitution is the right for men to go topless and women not to. In fact, the issue of public nudity is left up to the states as provided in the 10th amendment.
2 Million Boob March in Washington DC set for August 26th
But, a little fact like this isn’t going to stop these women. GoTopless women have chosen August 26th to hold a topless rally in our nation’s capital. August 26th is Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the day women were granted the constitutional right to vote. On this day GoTopless women will bare their chests in front of the capitol in hopes of getting a meeting with President Obama (according to the website) on this issue. If he’s smart, he’ll plan to be out of town that day.
If you think this all sounds a bit ridiculous, just wait until you hear how it all began. Spiritual leader Rael, founder of the Raelian Movement created GoTopless, org as a tribute to the female body; a body scientifically engineered by aliens. According to Raelian Philosophy, as published on GoTopless.org,”Life on Earth was the result of scientific creation by the Elohim, an advanced, extraterrestrial human civilization mistaken for gods in the Bible.” To paraphrase, it goes on to say that women should reject shameful, puritanical, societal values about their bodies, nudity and breasts. There you have it. Rael also suggests that you read his book, Intelligent Design, a message for humanity that was given to him during his UFO encounters in 1973.

According to the GoTopless organization’s website, even if a topless law is firmly in effect, the police can still arrest you under the pretense of “disorderly conduct”. You’ll lessen your chances of arrest; however, if you wear Nipsies, which are latex nipple covers that can be purchased on the GoTopless.org website.
